About the base6 website
This version of the base6 website was designed by Michael Kimb Jones (blog, twitter) late in 2008 and was launched after many hacks, tweaks and changes in May 2009.

base6 loves WordPress
WordPress is an Open Source, modern and advanced web publishing tool.
It can be easily configured into a fully-fledged CMS and is currently being used to power millions of blogs and 100s of websites around the globe.

Icons and ‘dirt’
The icons used on this website are modified versions of the excellent ‘Aesthetica‘ icon set.
Website dirt and grunge effects have been worked in using PhotoShop brushes and vector shapes from websites such as:

960 Grid System
The 960 Grid System (960.gs) is a great tool which helps speed up web design and development by implementing a rigid and easy to use grid system.
It comes supplied with a CSS reset file, PDF sketch sheets, Photoshop grid templates and example HTML files.
The base6 website uses the 960 Grid System throughout this site and on a number of other projects. It comes highly recommended.
jQuery and FLIR*
The jQuery JavaScript Library is fast becoming the de-facto standard among professional web design circles. jQuery is used for a number of things on the base6 website to implement animated galleries, large linkable areas and a few other cool things.
FLIR – the FaceLift Image Replacement tool is used to power the titles on the base6 website. In short this tool uses JavaScript to bring simple font replacement to any website. Very cool if you are sick of Arial and Verdana.
*FLIR was dropped from the base6 website in December 2009
